Western ambassadors react to Russia's latest attack on Odesa

Jul 23, 2023

Ministers and ambassadors of Western countries have published their first reactions to the nighttime Russian missile strike that severely damaged the historic center of Odesa.

This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.

French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna posted a photo of the partially destroyed Holy Transfiguration Cathedral with the hashtag "war crimes."

"While Russia continues its attacks on Odesa and has hit the cathedral, we cannot stop reiterating that deliberate attacks on civilian targets are considered war crimes under international law," Catherine Colonna wrote.

U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink reminded us that this is a World Heritage City and a port important to global food security.

"The ruined cathedral destroyed homes, and burned grain silos should make it clear again that it matters everywhere," she emphasized.

British Ambassador Melinda Simmons emphasized that there were clearly no military objectives in the damaged historic center of Odesa.

"A beautiful Ukrainian city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is being bombed because it is a port from which vital food is exported," she said.
