Israel has warned the Hamas terror group of a major military operation in the city of Rafah if the militants do not agree to a deal to release some of the 133 remaining hostages.

Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said that if an agreement on the exchange of hostages is reached, Tel Aviv will suspend the operation. Meanwhile, the IDF continues to prepare for the operation, and Egypt has renewed efforts to free the hostages after weeks of seemingly deadlocked efforts.

"Releasing the hostages is our top priority. If there is an opportunity to make a deal, we will do it," Katz said, though he stressed that it would not affect the overall goal of the war, which is to destroy Hamas.

He spoke after an Egyptian delegation was in Israel on Friday for talks with Israel on the possibility of concluding a new agreement.
