Russians blocked two Finnish planes from landing in Estonia

Apr 28, 2024

Russian terrorists continue to obstruct European air traffic near their borders. Two planes of the Finnish national air carrier Finnair, en route from Helsinki to the Estonian city of Tartu, were forced to turn back due to GPS signal interference.

This was reported by the Finnish edition of Yle.

Finnair's Director of Public Relations Päivit Tallqvist said that the flights departing on Thursday night and Friday and Saturday returned to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. They were scheduled to land in Tartu at 00.40.

According to Tallqvist, GPS interference is commonplace and does not cause situations like this. Airports usually have several approach systems and do not necessarily need a GPS signal.

"Tartu Airport is one of the few airports where there are no other approach methods," Tallqvist commented.

Since 2022, interference with GPS signals during flights has also increased in Finland.
