May 2, 2024

On Thursday evening, Georgian police began detaining demonstrators against the law on "foreign agents" who blocked traffic in Tbilisi.

This was reported by the SOVA project.

Several protesters were detained on Heroes Square in Tbilisi, where the rally against the law on foreign agents is taking place. It is not specified how many. This demonstration site is one of the main transportation arteries of the Georgian capital.

The protesters blocked the road and were detained. The Georgian Interior Ministry had previously warned that law enforcement would respond to attempts to obstruct traffic.

At the same time, thousands of people gathered near the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue.

Security measures near the parliament have been tightened. Special forces have been mobilized to the courtyard of the legislative body.

Despite days of mass protests and warnings from the West, the high-profile bill on "foreign agents" has already been approved in the first and second readings.

The Georgian parliament is expected to consider the draft law in the third reading in about two weeks.
