Cavoli: No telling if Russia has already launched its summer offensive

May 16, 2024

The Commander of NATO's Allied Forces Europe, General Christopher Cavoli, believes that it is currently difficult to talk about the beginning of Russia's expected large-scale offensive, given its actions in the north of the Kharkiv region.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, he said this on May 16 following a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.

Cavoli explained that it is always difficult to predict the enemy's intentions, and now we can only say that the Russians are attacking southward toward Kharkiv and are seeking to “regain some of the territory they lost last year in Ukraine.”

“But the exact sequence (of actions - Ed.) and how they are going to do it may not be entirely clear yet,” the general said.

“Is it a summer offensive? You can never be sure. We are not seeing the accumulation of large reserves. Russia has a standard conscription every six months, but it is not yet connected to the conflict,” summarized the Commander of Allied Forces Europe.
