Russia supplies North Korea with oil in violation of restrictions

The US side plans to impose additional sanctions on Russia because it secretly supplies oil products to North Korea in volumes that may violate the restrictions imposed by the UN Security Council.

An unnamed American official told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

According to the US official, in March alone, Russia shipped more than 165 thousand barrels of oil products to North Korea. Given the proximity of Russian and North Korean commercial ports, Russia can continue these supplies indefinitely, he added.

"Russia has been shipping oil products from the port of Vostochny to the DPRK. The Russian shipments have already pushed imports to the DPRK above the 500 barrels per year set by the UN Security Council," the US official told Reuters.
