Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has postponed his planned trip to Washington to meet with U.S. President Joe Biden at the White House on May 9.

A senior official told Bloomberg on condition of anonymity.

According to the official, Turkey decided to postpone the visit, and the delay is due to a change in Erdogan's schedule.

Although a White House spokesman said that the meeting of the presidents had not been announced, officials from both countries privately confirmed to the agency that the visit was planned.

The Bloomberg source said, without elaborating, that Ankara and Washington would discuss a new date for Erdogan's visit.

At the same time, U.S. officials confirmed on condition of anonymity that the Turkish side had canceled the visit, but that Erdogan might want to come at a more convenient time later.
