This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the BBC.

Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, was shot dead by masked gunmen in a busy parking lot in a Vancouver suburb last June.

The diplomatic dispute escalated after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said that the Indian government may have been involved in the crime.

The arrested Indians were 22 to 28 years old, lived in Edmonton, Alberta, and had been in Canada for the past 3-5 years.

The Canadian police said that in the course of the investigation into the murder and conspiracy to commit murder, they are also investigating "ties to the government of India".

"Separate and distinct investigations are ongoing into these matters, certainly not limited to the involvement of the people arrested today," said Assistant Commissioner David Teboul.

Canadian investigators have been working with their Indian counterparts, but they said cooperation has been "quite difficult and challenging."

Police said that other people may be involved in the murder, and more arrests or charges may be laid.
