After receiving $61 billion in U.S. military aid, Ukraine will try to launch a new counteroffensive in 2025 to keep Russia from gaining additional benefits this year.

This was stated by US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, RBC-Ukraine reports citing the Financial Times.

He noted that he still expects "Russian progress in the coming period" on the battlefield despite the new US funding package approved in April, as "you can't just flip a switch."

Speaking at the FT Weekend festival in Washington on Saturday, May 4, Sullivan noted that with Washington's new aid, Kyiv will be able to "hold the line" through 2024 and "ensure that Ukraine can withstand a Russian attack."

Pointing to a war scenario next year, Sullivan said that Ukraine plans to "move forward and take back the territory that the Russians have taken from it."

The publication notes that such comments are the clearest articulation by the White House of how it sees the conflict developing if Joe Biden is re-elected president in November.

It is also noted that any new Ukrainian offensive in 2025 will depend on increased funding and the approval of new financial assistance packages by Congress and the White House.
