On Friday, Germany and France will sign an agreement to jointly develop a new MGCS (Main Ground Combat System) tank amid Europe's efforts to strengthen its defense against Russia's war against Ukraine.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his French counterpart Sébastien Lecorneuil told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that they would sign a memorandum of understanding on the project on Friday in Paris.

“We are working together to develop a system of the future that is focused on what we need - from artificial intelligence and state-of-the-art sensor technology to the ability to use the system unmanned in certain situations,” Pistorius said.

For his part, Lecorneu noted that the MGCS project will take into account lessons learned during the fighting in Ukraine and ensure that the tank interacts well with other types of weapons.

The two governments also hope to see progress on another important Franco-German defense innovation, the Future Combat Air System, which involves the development of a next-generation fighter jet.
