State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said that at a meeting with China's top official in Shanghai, Chen Jining, Blinken raised concerns about China's "trade policies and non-market economic practices”.

Blinken also "stressed that the United States seeks a healthy economic competition with the PRC and a level playing field for U.S. workers and firms operating in China."

Chen, in turn, said that the recent conversation between the two leaders contributed to the "stable and healthy development of relations between our two countries".

“Whether we choose cooperation or confrontation affects the well-being of both peoples, both countries, and the future of humanity," he added.

In addition to local officials, Blinken will meet with business leaders and students before heading to Beijing on Friday for talks with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and a possible meeting with President Xi Jinping.

According to experts, during the visit, Blinken will put pressure on China to influence Beijing to influence Chinese companies involved in the modernization of the Russian military-industrial complex.

Without disclosing details, a senior State Department official told reporters that Washington is ready to "take steps" against Chinese firms that it believes are harming the security of the United States and Europe.
