This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Bloomberg.

The publication indicates that five years ago, Macron played an important role in the election of Ursula von der Leyen to the position of president of the European Commission.

With the election less than two months away, Macron has discussed with prime ministers, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Maloney, the possibility of a technocratic leader in the EU executive.

When Ursula von der Leyen became president of the European Commission in 2019, she promised to turn the institution into a “geopolitical commission”. But EU officials said on condition of anonymity that she may have lost the chance to do so due to the politicization of her role.
