Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has sent a letter to the country's parliament in which he announced the approval of the transit of equipment and material assets transferred to Ukraine by Estonia, as well as the training of Ukrainian military personnel with this equipment.

As stated in Johannis' letter, in February 2024, the Estonian Ministry of Defense sent a request to the Romanian Ministry of National Defense about its intention to "transfer equipment and material assets to Ukraine free of charge."

In this context, Estonia asked Romania to support the transit of this equipment, as well as to help organize training for Ukrainian crews who will receive and operate it.

"Romania's participation in training activities for the Ukrainian military is an important and necessary element in supporting the collective actions of NATO member states and partners in support of Ukraine," the Romanian president emphasized.

The Romanian president, according to the country's Constitution, has the authority to authorize the transit of foreign military equipment, subject to notification of the parliament.
