Ukraine lost territory in the east due to Congress delaying aid

Apr 25, 2024

Due to the months-long delay in the approval of aid to Ukraine in the US Congress, Kyiv has lost part of the Ukrainian territories in the east of the country, in particular Avdiivka, said the national security adviser of the US president, Jake Sullivan.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Sullivan's briefing.

Due to the delay in American aid, Ukraine was forced to conserve ammunition, which resulted in the loss of territories, he said.

"And while today's announcement (about the beginning of aid, - ed.) is very good news for Ukraine, they are still under serious pressure on the battlefield, and it is quite possible that Russia may gain additional tactical advantages in the coming weeks," he said.
"The fact is that it will take some time for us to dig ourselves out of the hole created by the six-month delay in Congress passing additional aid," the Biden adviser added.

At the same time, according to him, Ukrainian troops were able to inflict "significant costs" on Russia while waiting for help from the United States. Since the beginning of 2024, according to the estimates of the American authorities, Ukraine has destroyed more than 700 Russian armored vehicles and approximately 250 Russian tanks, "while Russia had to continue throwing its soldiers into battle without proper training and equipment."
