The publication was informed about the meeting by its own sources familiar with the matter.

A few days ago, on April 20, Erdogan met in Istanbul with the political leader of the Hamas group Ismail Haniyeh. The parties discussed a potential permanent ceasefire and accelerated humanitarian aid to Gaza. Unlike the United States and the European Union, Turkey does not consider Hamas a terrorist organization.

As a reminder, in response to the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed more than a thousand Israelis, the IDF launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip.

The Turkish president condemned Israel, saying that he would present the country to the world as a "war criminal" and "occupier". Tel Aviv recalled its diplomats from Turkey.

Later, Erdogan said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the state's leadership were solely responsible for the situation in the Middle East.
