Greece responds to demand to transfer air defense systems to Ukraine

Apr 23, 2024

The Greek government will not take any action that could jeopardize the country's ability to deter a potential enemy. This is how Athens reacted to media reports about NATO and the EU's alleged pressure on the country to transfer air defense systems to Ukraine.

This was stated by Greek government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Ekathimerini.

According to him, the government has consistently denied such statements in the past, and he added that today it strongly reaffirms our position.

"We have already provided tangible assistance to Ukraine and its people. However, it must be emphasized that no action will be taken - and I emphasize this - that could even remotely jeopardize our country's deterrence or air defense capabilities," Marinakis said at a briefing on Monday.

I don't remember Greece helping Ukraine in any significant way. But that's not the point.

It is sad to see rich countries with huge amounts of modern weapons, including air defense, demanding a poor country to give something to Ukraine.
