RF caused damage to the environment of Ukraine by 2 trillion UAH

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets, called the damage to ecology due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This was stated by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Ruslan Strilets, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to the broadcast of the telethon.

According to the Minister of Environmental Protection, the Russians caused damage to the environment in the amount of 2.4 trillion dollars.

"To date, the damage to the environment has already exceeded 2.4 trillion UAH; this is more than 4,200 cases of crimes against the environment," Strelets informed.

The minister reacted to the Russian attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. According to him, attacks affect not only the infrastructure, but also the state of the environment.

"As for the strikes on energy, it is not only the impact on the infrastructure and people's lives. It is burning, it is emissions, it is the waste of destruction, it is a large amount of what affects the state of our environment," said Strilets.

The minister also mentioned the damage caused by the destruction of the Kakhovska HPP by the Russians.

"When the terrorist attack on the Kakhovska HPP took place, the ministry turned to the experts of UNEP, which is a UN organization that deals with the environment. They gave us more than 20 experts from more than 20 countries of the world. There was already an attempt to calculate the loss of ecosystem services. The numbers were more than 15 million dollars," said Strilets.
