Romania's radar systems have detected a small flying object, presumably a drone, that violated national airspace at a distance of up to 6 km inland.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

The ministry said that the radar first detected the signal at 21:04 on December 26, 15 km east of Cilia Veque in Tulcea County.

It notified the population of the county of the need to take cover and began the procedure for calling in fighter jets, but the radar lost the signal at 21:09 GMT.

“We would like to clarify that although the warplanes were prepared to intervene within the timeframe stipulated by the regulations, the situation did not require their takeoff,” the statement said.

According to the report, there is no information about a possible targeted strike on the territory of Romania.

“The forces and means of the Air Police Combat Service, both of the Romanian army and those deployed by NATO countries on national territory, constantly monitor the airspace of Romania and adjacent areas, ready to act at any time, depending on the situation in the area of responsibility,” the ministry said.
