South Africa, which currently holds the G20 presidency and will host the G20 summit, will not invite Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to the event. This is because of the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for the Kremlin leader.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to The Moscow Times.
The official representative of the South African president, Vincent Magwenya, said that “the legal situation has not changed since the BRICS summit in Johannesburg (a city in South Africa).”
He noted that South Africa “cannot influence” the decision of the ICC, according to which Putin should be arrested on the territory of countries that have ratified the Rome Statute because of the forced deportation of Ukrainian children, which qualifies as a war crime.
The G20 summit is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg on November 21-22, 2025.
