On December 17, Donald Trump officially secured the presidency of the United States. He received the required 270 votes.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to CNN.
According to the publication, on Tuesday, Texas electors at a meeting in Austin awarded Trump 40 electoral votes. This made it possible to finally confirm and secure the Republican's victory.
Although Donald Trump won the election on November 5, his victory was not officially formalized until December 17, when the Electoral College met across the country as part of the constitutional process to officially elect the president.
It is worth noting that to win the US presidential election, a candidate needs to win 270 out of 538 electoral votes. In the November election, Trump received 312 votes, and Vice President Kamala Harris received 226. Until now, each elector has voted for the candidate he or she was elected to represent.
Now, the votes of each state will be sent to Congress. Lawmakers will meet in a joint session on January 6 to officially count the electoral votes and officially declare Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance the next president and vice president. Trump and Vance will take office at noon on January 20, 2025.
