On Monday, December 16, the 12 countries of the Nordic-Baltic Eight Plus agreed to step up measures against Russia's “shadow fleet.” President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to this decision.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to his post on the social network X.
“I welcome today's joint statement by the Nordic-Baltic Eight++ countries on countering Russia's shadow fleet. I am grateful to the leaders of Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the United Kingdom for their principled position,” the President said in a statement.
Zelenskyy emphasized that “these outdated tankers” in addition to generating huge profits for the Russian military machine and financing war crimes against Ukrainians pose a serious environmental threat to the coastal states of the Baltic and North Seas.
The President added that the decision to limit the activities of Russia's shadow fleet is quite fair in order to protect Ukraine and the whole of Europe.
“We look forward to the practical implementation of the insurance checks mentioned in the statement. We need a collective determination to deprive the Russian military machine of funding and protect the European environment,” Zelenskyy summarized.-
