Russian troops use K-51 gas grenades on the Ukrainian front. The only salvation from them is a gas mask.

This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to DPSU.

The border guards check the operation of the gas masks, their adjustment, and train in conditions as close as possible to real ones," the message reads.

In order to create almost real conditions, as the border guards say, an irritating gas called chloropicrin is used.

K-51 - a grenade with an irritating substance is used by the occupiers despite the ban. In the absence of a gas mask, a person feels sick, cuts his eyes, coughs, vomits, and has difficulty breathing.

"In this way, the enemy smokes the enemy out of the trenches, and in an open area, he becomes a good target," said the DPSU.

It is known from open sources that the K-51 is a non-lethal Soviet hand-held aerosol “tear gas” grenade. Developed in the 1970s in the USSR.

The impact of the K-51 grenade compared to grenades for dispersal of demonstrators is much higher, since it was created for the military and special services. After the fuse starts burning, a reaction takes place inside the grenade; the burning substance increases the pressure inside the case and knocks out the bottom of the grenade, spraying a cloud of chemicals.

It should be noted that the use of chemical riot control agents (in particular, tear gas) is prohibited by the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Geneva Protocol of 1925.
