The Bundestag will discuss the supply of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, which are capable of destroying targets at a distance of up to 500 kilometers.

This was reported by Tagesschau.

Two proposals will be submitted to the Bundestag: the SPD, Greens, and FDP parties, which are part of the traffic light coalition, call for "the supply of additional long-range weapons systems" in more general terms, while the CDU/CSU opposition directly mentions Taurus in its proposal.

Back in May of last year, the Ukrainian side addressed the German government with an official request for the supply of Taurus cruise missiles. Since then, the discussion has not subsided.

"The results of the discussions in the Bundestag will be more of a formality, as the decision itself depends on the government," the article says.

As a reminder, Ukraine has been calling on Germany to start supplying long-range Taurus missiles since last year. However, Berlin has so far refused to make such deliveries.

According to media reports, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is against it. He is worried that the missiles could be used to strike at Russian territory.
