EU studying Zelensky's peace formula to gather more support – Borrell

Oct 2, 2023

The informal meeting in Kyiv of the foreign ministers of the European Union member states will discuss the Ukrainian peace formula presented by President Volodymyr Zelensky.

This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

During a joint press conference with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, he said that on the sidelines of the EU Council, the participants would also consider preparations for the upcoming summit.

At the same time, Borrell pointed out that this meeting in the Ukrainian capital is informal, as it is held outside the EU, and is also considered "a high-level political debate that does not aim to reach specific conclusions and decisions".

The meeting is "a kind of brainstorming that we need to do among us and with you to look at the situation because of the war against Ukraine, how the European Union is supporting Ukraine and how we will continue to do so," he said.

"We will study the Peace Formula of Zelensky to gather more support around the world and prepare for the summit," Borrell said at a joint briefing with Kuleba.

As a reminder, almost a year ago, on October 11, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced to the leaders of the G7 countries a "peace formula" to overcome the Russian threat.

It includes 10 points and provides, among other things, defense support for Ukraine, as well as the protection of its territorial integrity and the punishment of Russian terrorists.
