Iowa has become the thirty-third state in the United States to recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
This was reported on the Facebook page of the US Ambassador to Ukraine Oksana Markarova.
According to her, the Iowa authorities issued a proclamation on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor, in which they recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people and proclaimed November as the month of remembrance of the Ukrainian Holodomor-Genocide in Ukraine.
"We are sincerely grateful to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for her solidarity with Ukraine. I am grateful to Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago Sergiy Kolesov and the Ukrainian community for their active work in honoring the memory of the Holodomor victims," the ambassador added.
