President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law on a plea deal with the investigation into corruption cases. Thus, Kyiv has fulfilled the conditions for receiving a tranche from the European Union.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to the website of the Verkhovna Rada.
According to the website, Law No. 12039 was returned to the parliament with the signature of the head of the Ukrainian state. It took only two days after the document was adopted in the second reading.
Now in Ukraine, thanks to an agreement with the investigation, the court can sentence corrupt officials to shorter prison terms than those provided for in the Criminal Code. The agreement provides for the exposure of accomplices and compensation for damages.
Such rules do not apply to organizers of criminal schemes. For them, a shorter prison term is possible only if they reveal another organizer.
