Feb 23, 2024

The U.S. State Department has announced a $10 million reward for information that will help identify or locate the leaders of the hackers from the group that caused serious business damage with the LockBit ransomware virus.

This was reported by Yevropeiska Pravda.

The United States promises $10 million for information that will help identify the group's leaders and their whereabouts, and $5 million for information that will help arrest or convict people in any country.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Justice officially announced charges against two Russians believed to be involved in the scheme. The network was exposed in cooperation with British experts and other international partners.

Government cyber specialists managed to seize control of the servers used by LockBit administrators and prevent them from continuing their activities. In addition, they managed to obtain keys to unlock the infected computers, and the victims can contact the FBI for help.

LockBit is called one of the most active groups of this type in the world, having caused damage to more than 2,000 victims in the United States and other countries and extorted more than $120 million.
