Austrian Federal Chancellor Karl Negammer emphasized that any peaceful settlement of the war waged by Russia against Ukraine is possible only with the participation of Ukraine and taking into account its interests. He spoke in detail about his phone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump, during which much attention was paid to the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine, citing an interview with Neghammer for PULS 24.
He noted that Austria, as a neutral country, could be offered as a venue for possible peace talks.
At the same time, Negammer emphasized that any discussions on peace should be held with the participation of Ukraine, and its interests should be at the center of the negotiations.
In addition, the politician noted Trump's interest in the war and his desire to end the conflict. According to the Austrian chancellor, Trump demonstrated emotional involvement and high motivation for initiatives that would help end the war and reduce human losses.
Negammer reiterated that no decisions on peace can be made without Ukraine. He also noted that the issue of territorial concessions or reduction of military aid was not discussed at this stage.
The Chancellor emphasized the importance of international support for Ukraine and joint efforts to achieve a just peace. He expressed hope that Trump's interest could create a “new dynamic” in resolving the conflict.
