The European Commission opposed the telethon. Instead, Brussels urged Ukraine to work on restoring the work of various broadcasters.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the European Commission's report on the progress of the candidate countries.
The European Commission noted that the main problem concerns the financing of the United News telethon from the state budget. At the same time, the objectivity of the telethon was mentioned.
“In 2023, the Ukrainian government invested public funds in the TV marathon project. It is worth reassessing whether this is the best platform for free discussion,” the document says.
The European Commission also criticized the Rada TV channel, whose main task should be “to disseminate information about parliamentary activities, including the work of representatives of the parliamentary opposition.”
