The administration of US President Joe Biden is preparing a large package of military aid to Ukraine worth $725 million. It will be one of the largest under the use of presidential arms reduction authority (PDA).
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Reuters.
The move is part of efforts to support Ukraine amid increased Russian aggression before the end of Biden's presidential term.
The package is expected to include:
The size of the package is significantly larger than previous ones, which usually amounted to $125-250 million. This will be one of the last major military aid packages from the Biden administration before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, 2025.
Congress will be officially notified of the package in the coming days. The final content and size of the aid may be finalized before Biden signs it.
Although anti-personnel mines are prohibited by international treaties, Ukraine has insisted on supplying them to protect its territory. The US expects their use to be limited to military zones and avoid civilian areas.
According to analysts, Russia is making its fastest advance on the battlefield since the invasion, underscoring Ukraine's urgent need for additional defense equipment.
