“During the conversation, which began with congratulations on taking office, the current situation in Ukraine, the prospects for NATO expansion and the aggravation of the situation in the Middle East were discussed,” the statement said.

In particular, the new NATO Secretary General thanked Poland for its efforts to support Ukraine and emphasized the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine's air defense systems and improve the logistics of the Armed Forces.

The two politicians agreed that Russian missiles and drones, which violate the borders of NATO countries and over which the Russian army is losing control, are becoming a problem.

Speaking about the conflict in the Middle East, Mark Rutte emphasized the numerous military contingents of NATO member states and NATO candidate countries deployed in the conflict zone, which could be at risk.

The Polish Foreign Ministry's website also states that on behalf of Prime Minister Donald Tusk, Minister Sikorski invited the new NATO Secretary General to visit Warsaw.

As a reminder, Mark Rutte officially took office as NATO Secretary General on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. Previously, he was the Prime Minister of the Netherlands.
