Russian occupants shot 16 Ukrainian prisoners of war at once in the Pokrovsk sector. This is the largest execution since the beginning of the war.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Office of the Prosecutor General on Telegram and the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets on Telegram.

The Prosecutor General's Office noted that today, October 1, information about the possible execution of 16 Ukrainian soldiers by the Russian occupiers appeared on the network. According to unconfirmed reports, the Russian war crime took place near the villages of Mykolayivka and Sukhyi Yar in Pokrovsk district.

“The released video shows how the captured Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen came out of the forest plantation under the control of the enemy. After they lined up in a line, the occupiers deliberately opened fire on them,” law enforcement officers said.

After that, the occupiers killed at close range those wounded who showed signs of life.

Such actions violate the Geneva Conventions and are classified as a grave international crime.

“This is the largest known case of execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war on the front line. And this is another evidence that the killing and torture of prisoners is not an accident, but a deliberate policy of the Russian military and political leadership,” said Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.

A pre-trial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war, which is associated with premeditated murder, has been launched.

Law enforcement officers are currently checking the published video. Investigative and search activities have also been launched to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

In his turn, Lubinets noted that he had already sent letters to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross regarding this crime by Russians.

“The systematic nature of crimes against Ukrainian prisoners of war must be stopped, and those who committed them must be held accountable,” he added.
