Netanyahu: Iran made a big mistake and will pay for it

On Tuesday, October 1, Iran launched a missile attack on Israel. However, it failed.

This was stated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, RBC-Ukraine reports citing Reuters.

At a meeting on politics and security, the official emphasized that Iran had made a big mistake for which it would pay.

“Tonight, Iran attacked Israel again with hundreds of missiles. This attack failed. It was thwarted by Israel's air defense system, which is the most advanced in the world. Iran made a big mistake tonight - and it will pay for it. The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to take revenge on our enemies,” Netanyahu said.

Separately, Israel's representative to the UN said that Iran will soon feel the consequences of its actions, and the response will be painful.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal writes that Israel has warned Iran that in response to any attack on Israeli territory, the country will launch direct strikes on Iranian nuclear or oil facilities.

Continuing the theme, we note that in a commentary to CNN, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that America would coordinate with Israel in response to Iran's missile attack, calling it a “significant escalation.” He also promised that there would be consequences.

“Of course, there must be consequences for Iran for this attack. We have made it clear that there will be consequences. I'm not going to go into the details of what those consequences will be today, but these are things that we will be coordinating with our Israeli counterparts on,” he said.

Miller would not say whether Iran's nuclear program was a legitimate target for Israeli retaliation after the Iranian missile attack, but said the US plans to “discuss those consequences with our Israeli counterparts before we talk about them publicly.”

“That doesn't mean I'm ruling anything out or not ruling anything out, but I would answer any question this way: we want to have those conversations directly with our Israeli counterparts in the coming days,” the State Department spokesman said.

In addition, he said that Iran's missile attack was repelled in part due to coordination between the United States, Israel, and partners (Miller did not specify which countries).

It should be noted that after Netanyahu's statement, Reuters reported a new statement from Iran. In particular, the Iranian armed forces warned Israel's allies against direct intervention.

They stated that they would strike at the “bases and interests” of Israel's supporters in the region if they directly interfere with Tehran's actions. The Iranian side also added that any Israeli response to Iran's missile attack would be met with “large-scale destruction” of Israeli infrastructure.
