Oct 3, 2024

The Kremlin seeks to use the conflict in the Middle East to promote international structures dominated by Russia. In particular, this refers to the Kremlin's efforts to create an alternative “Eurasian security architecture.”

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov condemned the Israeli Defense Forces' ground operation in southern Lebanon during a meeting with the Lebanese ambassador to Russia on October 1. He emphasized that Russia opposes what it calls Israeli political assassinations.

Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov called for an immediate end to the conflict in the Middle East, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with ambassadors of unspecified Arab states and called for an immediate cessation of military operations in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict zone.

“The Kremlin is likely seeking to take advantage of the conflict in the Middle East to promote Russian-dominated international structures, including some that are linked to the Kremlin's efforts to create an alternative 'Eurasian security architecture,'” ISW said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on October 2 that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had accepted Russia's invitation to attend the BRICS summit in Kazan on October 22-24. According to him, the participants will discuss the situation in the Middle East.
