According to Singh, the increased US presence in the Middle East will be provided by several fighter squadrons.

The additional contingent includes squadrons of F-15E Strike Eagle, F-16, A-10 and F-22 fighters, as well as personnel required to support them.

It was previously assumed that the fighter jets would arrive on the ground and replace existing squadrons. Instead, both existing and new aircraft will remain in place to double the current presence.

Recently, U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin also announced a temporary extension of the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group and associated squadrons in the region.

Singh explained that the fighter jets are not there to assist in the evacuation, but to protect American troops.
