“Regarding NATO membership. As you know, at the last NATO summit in Washington in July, the allies agreed that Ukraine's path to NATO membership is irreversible. As I said, Ukraine is closer to NATO than ever before, and we have a comprehensive assistance package to help Ukraine implement reforms,” the new Secretary General said.

Rutte added that today many people are working with Ukrainians to improve and implement reforms.

The Secretary General expressed confidence in Ukraine's future membership in NATO and that Russia will not have a veto over it.

“Ukraine is getting stronger day by day and is becoming more ready than ever before to join the Alliance, and this helps to build a bridge to membership. I think this day will come. Ukraine will become a full member of NATO. Russia has no influence and no veto on this issue,” he emphasized.
