Bulgaria is considering allocating EUR 80 million to Ukraine

Jul 5, 2024

Bulgaria is considering providing Ukraine with 80 million euros at the NATO summit if the parliament agrees to it.

This was reported by BNR.

According to Bulgaria's interim Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, "this or any other" amount will become a fact after a vote in parliament.

"Our main goal is to protect our national interests as a NATO ally," Glavchev said, without specifying what exactly this amount would be allocated for.

At the same time, the leader of the GERB-SDF (Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria and the Union of Democratic Forces), Boyko Borisov, said that Sofia would not give Kyiv money in cash.

In turn, the co-chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) party, Delian Peevski, explained that there is no contradiction in Glavchev's and Borisov's statements.

"This money will not be transferred by our country directly to Ukraine, but will be deducted from the amounts Bulgaria receives for the weapons provided to Kyiv," he said.
