According to Ukrinform, this was reported by ERR with reference to the press service of the Estonian government.

According to Prime Minister Kai Kallas, despite the restrictions at the border, attempts are being made to circumvent sanctions, and given the new EU sanctions package, these risks are increasing.

"We have to be sure that the goods crossing our borders are not subject to EU sanctions," Kallas said.

She believes that replacing the current risk-based spot checks with full inspections of goods and vehicles will give the authorities more confidence that goods "that could support the Russian military machine will not cross the Estonian border."

The prime minister added that Estonia will continue negotiations with Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland on the implementation of common requirements and procedures at the border.

Furthermore, the government has instructed the Ministry of Finance to prepare an action plan to introduce full customs control at the external borders of the European Union in the direction of Estonia's exit.
