NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said before next week's summit of NATO leaders in Washington, D.C., that supporting Ukraine will be "the most urgent task."

He said this during a press conference dedicated to the upcoming summit, according to Yevropeiska Pravda.

In particular, Stoltenberg expects that in Washington, the leaders will "agree on a substantial package of assistance to Ukraine."

He also reminded that NATO will take over the coordination and provision of most of the international security assistance.

He added that Allies will agree on financial commitments for Ukraine and that he also expects more immediate military support for Ukraine, more bilateral security agreements, and work to deepen military interoperability.

According to the secretary general, all these elements "are a bridge to NATO membership and a very strong package for Ukraine at the summit."
