"We are grateful to the state of North Carolina and the 75th governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, for re-recognizing the Holodomor as genocide on the 90th anniversary of the Holodomor in Ukraine," she wrote.

The Holodomor of 1932-1933 is considered one of the most tragic events in Ukrainian history. Mass famine led to millions of victims. Historians note that about 7 million people died as a result of the Holodomor.
