US President-elect Donald Trump has invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to attend his inauguration. This will be an unprecedented event for China as Washington's central geopolitical rival.

According to the channel's sources, an invitation to Trump's inauguration on January 20 in Washington was sent to Xi in early November. Since then, it has been unclear whether the Chinese leader has accepted it or not.
In an interview with NBC News on Friday, Trump said that he gets along “very well” with Jinping and that they “talked as recently as this week.”
Attending the inauguration of the head of the White House would be unprecedented for the leader of China, the main geopolitical rival of the United States.
