Australia to provide Ukraine with 14 boats to enhance maritime defense

Australia will provide Ukraine with 14 RHIBs (rigid hulled maritime highly maneuverable boats) as part of defense assistance. These are the Australian Royal Navy Sentinel 830R boats.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Australian Ministry of Defense.

The Australian defense ministry noted that the latest package of military support for the Ukrainian side worth $14 million “will strengthen Ukraine's maritime and coastal defense, which is an important operational area for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

“These Australian Defence Force maritime boats will provide Ukraine with fast and highly maneuverable maritime capabilities,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Australian Ministry of Defense added that the announcement of the boats builds on previous contributions to the development of Ukrainian maritime capabilities, including the rigid-hulled inflatable boats announced by Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles earlier this year.

The Australian ministry emphasizes that the assistance is provided as part of the government's ongoing commitment to “support Ukraine in its defense against Russia's illegal invasion.”

“Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion, Australia has provided more than $1.3 billion in military support and more than $1.5 billion in general support to the government of Ukraine,” the Defense Ministry said.
