Jun 13, 2024

U.S. President Joe Biden said that the bilateral security agreement between the United States and Ukraine will help strengthen the defense capabilities of Ukrainian forces, but that the possible deployment of U.S. troops is out of the question.

He said this at a joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelenskyy after signing the security agreement.

According to Biden, the purpose of the agreement is to "strengthen Ukraine's long-term defense and deterrence capabilities."

"The United States will help in the realization of both of these goals - not by sending troops to Ukraine, but by providing weapons and ammunition, expanding intelligence sharing, further training of brave Ukrainian soldiers in the United States and Europe, strengthening the interoperability of our troops, investing in the Ukrainian defense industry," he listed.

The U.S. leader noted that the agreement also provides for U.S. participation in economic reconstruction, enshrines a vision of a just peace based on a "peace formula," and promotes Ukraine's integration into the Euro-Atlantic community.
