Borrell: EU is preparing punishment for Georgia

Jun 24, 2024

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell confirmed that the European Union has prepared proposals for measures against Georgia in case of its further anti-democratic course.

He said this following a meeting of EU foreign ministers on June 24.

According to Borrell, the claims of some Georgian officials that the so-called law on "foreign agents" brings Georgia closer to the EU are not true.

"I want to make it clear: no, no, this law and all the negative developments related to it are pushing Georgia away from the EU. I am speaking as clearly and concisely as possible," he emphasized, adding that this position "is supported by 26 out of 27 EU member states."
