British Defense Secretary John Healey has expressed confidence that the administration of new US President Donald Trump will continue to support NATO and Ukraine in its confrontation with Russia.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Reuters.
“I expect the United States to stand with allies such as the United Kingdom and support Ukraine as long as it takes to defeat the invasion (of Russian dictator Vladimir - ed.) Putin,” Gilli said.
He emphasized that Trump is aware of the importance of alliances such as NATO for international security.
Answering a question about possible changes in support for Ukraine after the US elections, Geeley said: “President Trump recognizes that countries gain security through strength, as do alliances like NATO.”
According to the British minister, the US commitment to NATO and the security of Europe will remain strong under the new administration, although he emphasized that European countries should increase their own defense spending.
“I do not expect the United States to turn away from NATO. They recognize the importance of the alliance and the need to prevent further conflicts in Europe,” Gilli added.-
