The United Kingdom has announced the introduction of the largest package of new sanctions against the Russian military-industrial complex. Thus, London has tightened restrictions on the supply of critical equipment needed by the Kremlin to wage war in Ukraine.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the press service of the British government.
The sanctions include suppliers that support Russian military production, as well as pro-Kremlin mercenary groups operating in sub-Saharan Africa and a GRU agent involved in the Novichok nerve agent attack in Salisbury. These measures are directly aimed at restricting the supply of products for the Russian armed forces, including machine tools, microelectronics and drones.
The sanctions also apply to organizations from China, Turkey and Central Asia that support Russia's military needs by supplying equipment for the production of military hardware.
The announcement of the sanctions came on the eve of the European Political Community summit in Budapest, where British Prime Minister Keir Starmer plans to discuss measures against Russian destabilizing activities in Europe and express support for Ukraine.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized that the new measures are aimed at undermining Russia's foreign policy in Africa and limiting the supply of critical equipment to Putin's military machine.
