22 mobile operators in the European Union and seven in Ukraine have agreed to extend for another 12 months the agreement on the abolition of roaming fees for Ukrainian citizens so that they can stay in touch with their families.
This was announced on Monday by the European Commission.
The European Commission claims to have facilitated an agreement between European and Ukrainian operators to extend the agreement "with a view to mutually reducing the tariffs they must maintain for cross-border calls."
Affordable calls allow Ukrainians seeking asylum in Europe to stay in touch with family and friends in Ukraine and vice versa.
BEREC, the body of European electronic communications regulators, has certified the effectiveness of the agreement between operators in the EU and Ukraine, as it has enabled affordable cross-border calling services.
