Oct 22, 2024

The G7 developed countries plan to keep Russian assets frozen even after the war with Ukraine ends. They will be returned only after the payment of contributions to Kyiv.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to Nikkei Asia.

As Nikkei has learned from numerous G7 sources, including senior European Union officials, the G7 leaders will issue a statement on the issue this month.

“We...reaffirm that Russia's sovereign assets in our jurisdictions will remain frozen until Russia ends its aggression and pays for the damage it has done to Ukraine,” reads a draft statement prepared by this year's Italian chairman.

The draft says that the bloc will guarantee a $50 billion loan to Kyiv.
