The United States does not want to start a war with Russia. But they will fulfill their obligations to other NATO countries.
Pentagon Secretary Lloyd Austin said this during a meeting with Ukrainian students, RBC-Ukraine reports.
He assured that US President Joe Biden had chosen the path of mutual responsibility and common security. Therefore, the United States decided to share responsibility for ensuring that Ukraine remains sovereign and free.
“And make no mistake, the United States does not want a war with Russia. And even if Putin (Russian dictator Vladimir Putin - ed.) makes extremely reckless and dangerous threats of nuclear war, we will continue to treat it with the responsibility that the world rightly demands from a nuclear power,” Austin emphasized.
He assured that the United States will defend “every inch of NATO territory” and provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance to fight for its survival and security.
