Lithuania to buy German Leopard 2 tanks

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the decision to purchase German Leopard 2 main battle tanks.

This is stated in a statement by the country's defense ministry, Yevropeiska Pravda reports.

According to the country's Defense Ministry, Lithuania has made key decisions to strengthen its national army.

“The decision to continue the purchase of German-made Leopard 2 tanks has been confirmed, as well as plans to purchase Swedish CV-90 infantry fighting vehicles,” the statement said.

These measures are part of Lithuania's efforts to modernize its military capabilities to effectively respond to modern security challenges.

Army Recognition notes that the decision to purchase Leopard 2 was made after preliminary discussions at VGT meetings, where German tanks were chosen as the most suitable option.

In addition to the purchase of tanks, Lithuania is also focused on providing infantry fighting vehicles to support its tank battalions, the journalists noted.

According to the publication, it is expected that funding for the purchase of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles will be provided through the Lithuanian Defense Fund.
